Hello! I am Brenda Parker, the designer and creator of BrendaBears™.

I was drawn into the wonderful world of bear making in 1993. I have always had a love for sewing and all things creative. For me, what began as a craft business quickly turned into an adventure in the teddy bear industry.

Each of my bears is lovingly designed and made entirely by me from start to finish. I strive for perfection in all my creations and use only the finest quality materials and put a great deal of myself into each bear. Much thought and attention goes into each and every detail of my bears.

Bear making allows me to express myself in my creations. My days are filled with creativity and delight. I find a great deal of enjoyment on this path laid out before me.

About Me

Hello!  My name is EJ (short for Esther Jean) and I have just discovered this site!  Wonderful!  I live in New Jersey, USA with my husband and two cats, Winston and a new kitten, Pepper Willow Minka.

I've been a bear collector for many years, collecting mostly antique English or German bears, but I've always tried to maintain a varied collection of teds, buying them wherever I find them (I may need a new house...or at least an addition:tongue:.

In the last couple of years, I've been looking into buying more artist bears for my hug -- what talent teddy bear artists have -- and have been impressed with the variety I've found!

I've never made a bear myself....how could I let it go?  :DBut maybe one day I'll make the attempt!

About Me

Hello,

I have been making collectable, hand-stitched teddy bears since 1999. I live in Queensland, with the Great Barrier Reef practically at my door. My bears are limited edition, one of a kind or custom made to order. I only use the best quality Mohair and Alpaca when making bears. My trademark bears are the "Bearonette Collection" of marionette bears which have 13 wobble joints, and the "Hand-stand Collection" of acrobatic bears. I also specialise in animated/musical hugs of bears. I love bears with GREAT character on their face, with BIG bellies and BIG feet! All of the "Bumble Bears Collection" come with their own hand-painted terracotta name tag, with date made, artists signature, and Edition Number or OOAK status on the back. I love any-thing with a difference.

I also have a small collection of Gunnies Bears along-side my own.

Having a busy life-style, and I find making bears relaxing and comforting. I am a perfectionist in many aspects of my life, bear-making one of them.

Are you a Doll or Teddy bear artist or maker?

I am a Teddy Bear Artist.

If you are an artist or bear maker what type of bears do you design and make?

I design and make collectable Teddy Bears. They are limited edition, one of a kind or custom made, all hand stitched Mohair or Alpaca bears.

I make a variety of styles ranging from small to large in size, with a variety of techniques. I am best known for my "Hand Stand" collection of acrobatic bears, "The Bearonette Collection"- my Marionette Bears and my "Hugs" of animated/musical bears.

I have a passion for Pandas mostly, but make all styles of bears.

How long have you made bears or dolls?

I have been making bears for over ten years now.

Are you a Teddy Bear collector?

I am more of an artist than a collector. But I do have a few bears.

How many Teddy Bears does your hug hold?

I'm not quite sure, but I still have room for more.

What attracts you to a new Teddy Bear the most?

The character of the bears face attracts me to a bear the most.

Describe what your dream Teddy Bear would be and look like.

My dream Teddy Bear would be cute with alot of character in his face. He would have a big belly and feet. He would be a bear that when you look at him you could just talk too him and know that he would understand.:)

Are you a Doll Collector?

Describe what your dream Doll would be and look like.

If I were to collect dolls, I am drawn mostly to the realistic porcelain baby dolls. To have a doll made to look like my children when they were young would be lovely as an Heirloom.

Describe when and why you started to collect Dolls or Teddy Bears.

I started making Teddy Bears for a theme room for my daughter when she was born. I didnt know how to style her room when I came accross a shop with old book shelves from floor to ceilling filled with teddy bears. I thaught what a wonderful idea to have this with her bed in the middle of the room and to be surrounded by Teddy Bears! I thaught that any child would just love this! To do what I envisioned would cost quite a bit, so I then decided to have a go at making the bears my-self! And here I am 18 years later making them for every-one else instead!:)

About Me

I have sewn, knitted and done various crafts for as long as I can remember .I love old forlorn looking bears which reflects in my work as my designs have a vintage style.Over the last 30 odd years(makes me sound ancient!) I have stashed fabrics, trims, buttons and allsorts of goodies-some I can't bear to use but take out to admire now and again-thats if I can find where I've put them! I have 2 comical chihauhaus and a long suffering partner who would love a tidy home but with me and all my stuff there's no chance! We moved to live near the sea nearly a year ago and we all love it.

About Me

I have always liked making things – out of paper, cloth, or any old scraps that came to hand, be it pieces of wire or string, beads, acorns or feathers.

Of course, you have to find all these things, pick them up, and store them somewhere for who knows how long, because you never know what would come in handy one day for whatever purpose...

And so this not altogether serious attachment to all sorts of little things had been with me all my life – until one day I discovered a way to bring together everything I liked, all my abilities, and all the trifles I had amassed over the years in one occupation: making Teddies.

This discovery made, there was no way back. And so, one by one, my Teddies appeared – each with his own personality.

My first Teddies saw the light of day in Moscow, Russia, where I had been born and brought up. Nowadays, I live in the UK, near Reading in Berkshire.

But still, each new Teddy Bear is shown first to my children. Their verdict is always the most impartial. Next to be roped in is my husband, who chooses names for my Teddies – and his choice is mostly very apt.

And another thing has never changed: the whole process, from the stage when the future Teddy only exists on paper as a pattern, to that wonderful moment when I can hug the newborn creature, is a very great pleasure for me.

And then there is someone else in our household who shows genuine interest: our cat.

She is just as partial to trifles as I am, and I strongly suspect that deep down she fears possible competition...

About Me

My name is Linda Hearn and the creator behind Critters Creations. I have been involved in arts and crafts and sewing projects for as long as I can remember. One day I took a course on how to make a bear and that was in 1998. From there I started making what was called "memory” bears from people’s fur coats and other garments. I then discovered the internet and how I could reach collectors from all over the world. I started my own web site and Critters Creations came alive and I started selling on line. I enjoy the freedom of creating different critters as my mind is always swirling around with new ideas. I have met a lot of great people along the way.

Besides love and care…...I only use quality materials such as mohair, genuine fur, and synthetic plush. I have even made a bear from a ladies mohair sweater!

I design my own patterns and customize a bear to be one of a kind. I like to challenge myself. I love trying new techniques to add to my creations.

About Me

KUMASHICHIDO was born in August, 2006. I thought in December, 2005 that I would make a teddy bear. That is, KUMASHICHIDO was born in time for 8 months from the concept.

However, I also had no knowledge of needlework. But there was only a thought harder than others. I studied how to make a teddy bear for every day for eight months, how to make a paper pattern, etc. It all was self-education.

I published the study to the blog and had technical advice my teddy bear evaluated from Japanese teddy bear artists.

That I can have confidence now was the time eight months passed. I acquired the information on the event of the Hokkaido teddy bear show exactly. And I thought that I would participate.

But in order for me to participate in an event, examination of the teddy bear was required. It cannot participate, if it does not pass it. It was a big trial for me.

Probably an event promoter thinks that this was the first time that participating hope was received from the male. Maybe... the Japanese male of the event participant in of those days was only me. Although a Japanese male's teddy bear artists have increased in number just in now, I think that it was not conspicuous those days.

Fortunately, my teddy bear was able to pass examination and was able to participate in the event. I thought then "I was also able to become a teddy bear artist."

Although I became a teddy bear artist, having made a teddy bear was not easy. That is because the difficulty of continuing making an original teddy bear was touched.

I considered the design variously. It is a teddy bear which I make an ideal. However, even if the teddy bear was completed, the thing different from the teddy bear which I visualized was done. That is, the skill of making my teddy bear is insufficient. I keenly realized it. Such days continued for many days and many days.....

My work had a big change. It is in 2010.

It continued for a long time unexpectedly slump days. One day, I looked at it and considered my wife's teddy bear collection. While seeing the teddy bear of a wife's collection, any teddy bear artists must have had an unripe time. And many artists repeat experience and I came to think that I am making the great teddy bear. I was able to remember for the purpose of what it thought a teddy bear would be made. Then, I am beginning to understand the meaning of making a teddy bear truly anew.

After feeling the meaning which I continue making, the work has changed. It still evolves. And I wish to enjoy making a teddy bear obediently, without continuing to disobey I myself thought.

Thank you!

About Me

My home studio is brimming with creative chaos here on the gorgeous Central Coast of California. Sometimes I have to move stuff to find stuff, but it sure is cozy!  I hope to have a bigger studio one of these days, and it looks like it is getting closer to happening.  I'm learning that construction takes a lot of time from concept to planning, to actual building.

I feel very fortunate that I have the freedom to indulge in my artful passions.  Creating soulful, engaging characters brings me a lot of joy and happiness.

About Me

My names is Julie, I'm married with two grown up children, two beautiful grandsons and three rather loopy dogs, I'm from the UK and have been painting/sculpting etc regularly for the past 15 years, although my interest in art started as a child .... I am really new to bear making, I did make a few bears as a teenager but things have certainly moved on a lot since then .... I also made reborns for a short time, a couple of years ago but after trying everything still found that the whole process affected my health ... it was my husband who was going to have a go at making a bear so he started researching kits etc and that was when I realised what amazing artist bears were out there and I think from then I've been hooked, finding out as much info as possible to get started and also lucky enough to come across this wonderful website where I am looking forward to meeting everyone! :)

Are you a Doll or Teddy bear artist or maker?

Both artdolls and bears

If you are an artist or bear maker what type of bears do you design and make?

I sculpt artdolls from polymer clay (mainly fantasy figures) and have just started making and designing my own teddy bear patterns ... at the moment I'm enjoying working with mohair, have made one teddy just under three inches tall and one ten inch bear.

How long have you made bears or dolls?

A doll artist for 7 years but only started making bears a few weeks ago other than making them as a teenager

Are you a Teddy Bear collector?

not yet!

How many Teddy Bears does your hug hold?

I only have the ones I have made and one of those is a present for a special lady!

What attracts you to a new Teddy Bear the most?

at the moment the originality of them all.

Describe what your dream Teddy Bear would be and look like.

Mmmm .... Not too large, maybe around 12 to14 inches ... hand dyed mohair in chestnut, golds and deep reds with a little cream here and there to set off the other colours .... but most important of all, lots of character, especially in his face and weighted nicely so as to be able to give him a lovely cuddle! :)

Are you a Doll Collector?

yes

How many Dolls does your collection hold?

I don't have a lot of space so just have some of my own creations

What attracts you to a new Doll the most?

again the originality

Describe what your dream Doll would be and look like.

My dream doll would be around 10 inches tall, with lots of realistic detail, be willowy in build, dressed in an autumn coloured, flimsy, fairy like gown with beautiful tiers on the skirt and a hankerchief edge at the bottom ... bear footed with manicured nails on both hands and feet with handmade tiny glass eyes and wonderful wavey mohair in a beautiful auburn brown.

Describe when and why you started to collect Dolls or Teddy Bears.

well actually I did have a really large soft toy collection until we had our chlldren, 30 years ago when space became important so they were passed on to hospitals etc where others could enjoy giving them a cuddle.

I started collecting my dolls just before I started sculpting in 2005.

About Me

I have always enjoyed being creative and made my first bears nearly 20 years ago now - which doesn't seem possible!  At that time I sold my creations through a local shop and at a couple of fairs. Then all too soon,  family life took over and the bears were largely forgotten - apart from the odd few made as presents. Now my children are 17 and 15 I have re-discovered my mohair stash under the bed and my passion for creating!

Teddy Bear artist

If you are an artist or bear maker what type of bears do you design and make?

My designs are usually quite traditional, mohair teddy bears. They range in size from about 6 - 16" tall (I have made larger bears in the past, but never as yet tried any in miniature - maybe one day. . .)

Presently I am experimenting with adding more joints and wire armature to increase my bears’ range of poses. I have also tried trapunto details on my paw pads which I really like.

Yes, a small hug

How many Teddy Bears does your hug hold?

The face

Describe what your dream Teddy Bear would be and look like.

Wow, what a hard question to answer as this is not a fixed ideal for me. I like all sorts of styles of bear from the fabulous realistic designs of Pawtrait Bears to the chic ‘Elegant Ladies’ by Monica Spicer. I guess ultimately it would need to be a bear full of character and have a ‘take me home’ face!

I met my first artist bear many years ago in a local craft shop and had to take her home as she was just so cute! She introduced me to the bear making world and although a few other bears have been added to my hug over the years, I mostly enjoy designing and creating rather than collecting.

I have been creating bears since 2005. I originally started with crocheted bears and eventually started sewing bears from mohair and other fabrics. I can't wait until a bear is done so I can see what he or she will be.

Yes

If you are an artist or bear maker what type of bears do you design and make?

The bears I design and make are all 6" or under. I originally started out with threads crocheting bears and then found a love for mohair and other fabrics. My creations are all one of a kind and each have their own unique personality. All of my bears have my trademark smirk (mischievous grin).

Describe when and why you started to collect Dolls or Teddy Bears.

I started collecting teddy bears as a small child and I still have my very first bear. Teddy bears have a soothing quality about them. When ever I feel down I look at my hug and it always brings a smile to my face.

About Me

My love for teddy bears and dolls began in my childhood. I started creating bears as a hobby after the birth of my daughter in 1989, but it wasn't until after attending a local Doll and Bear Show in 1995 that my real fascination and obsession with "artist-made" bears began. The bears captured my heart and inspired my creativity. I spent the following years perfecting my skills and developing my own style. Since then I have been creating top-quality, award-winning, one-of-a-kind heirloom teddy bears, dogs, cats, bunnies and elephants.

My bears are one-of-a-kind and mostly traditional in style, but I also create contemporary, primitive, "whimsical and sassy" teddy bears and companions in a variety of styles, sizes and colors. They are made from the finest quality German and English mohair, recycled furs and other luxury fabrics. Each bear is created as an art piece. Many hours are spent on creating a unique face and they all end up with their own distinct character. The love I put into each bear and my extreme care and attention to detail adds to their personality and charm.

Much of my inspiration comes from my love of children, animals, antiques, shabby chic, gardening, holidays, and the Victorian Era. I collect antique and vintage children's clothing and accessories, fabrics, holiday items, photographs of children with their teddy bears, and other old and new trinkets, to accessorize my bears and to use as props. I especially enjoy creating, old-looking, well-loved bears reminisent of the past. I dye and distress the mohair, handpaint facial features, and stuff them with excelsior for that old-style feel. Some bears are dressed in antique or vintage clothing, while others are simply accessorized with vintage collars, ribbons, lace, buttons, and other trimmings.

My bears are intended for adult collectors and not as children's toys, as they contain parts and materials that are not child safe. I do on request make bears suitable for children.

Designing and creating teddy bears is my passion. No other craft has been as fulfilling or touched me as deeply as bear making. Realizing the importance of teddy bears and how they can affect a person's life, keeps my passion for creating alive. When you look into the face of one of my creations and smile, I know I've accomplished an important goal. I hope one of my creations will capture your heart and become a cherished family heirloom.

About Me
My name is Kim Klintz and I live in beautiful Longmont Colorado against the mountains.
I made my first bear September 2009 and to date
I’ve made over 100 bears. I love to make them,
can’t wait to finish them, can’t hardly
breath until I start the next, hopefully will never stop. I make bears from anything;
see bears in everything and for everyone.
My favorite teddy bear times has been selling bears at craft shows and on Ebay, and blue ribbons at local fairs.

Also being a published Teddy bear atist in publications PRIMS and STUFFED.
I have met extraordinary teddy bear artists
from Colorado and around the world who
encourage me and advise me and share
about their bear/doll making with me. I’m looking
forward to my husband’s first bear. He loves them too.
We enjoy making wine together (many more years
of that under our belts then bear making).
Can you image it? Abundant Harvest
Vineyards and Klintzfamily bears, I can’t wait!!

....Well, in my dream the phone would ring. It would be a warm sunny day not too hot and I would be off from work.  An old friend would invite me to lunch. We would dine outside, stuff ourselves then walk it off to the lovely shops for some antiquing....

Just then...(and this is my dream remember) a long breeze from a opening door  would draw my attention, the fragrance  would drawn me in, the bear would be waiting for me behind the counter. Big, old, brown chocolate colored, German and old. The expression, the eyes, the cuteness all perfect. "I  just got him in," she would say to me, "isn't he gorgeous?"

"How much," hardly hearing anything she said prior to me? "Only $19.50, I was just about to put him out, but you look like you want him...do you want him...do you want him......do you want him?"  The question gets echoy and then I wake up.

About Me

I have been making and crafting since being young. My mother was always sewing and I always had bits of fabric to play with. Over the years I have made rag dolls and bears for my own daughters. Also nieces and nephews, at the last count is was 26 of them, and it is now the next generation are on their way. As my own daughters are grown and leaving the nest, I can now indulge my desire to make collector's teddy bears. I cannot resist any piece of fabric be it mohair, quality tweed, wool, you name I will make a bear out of it. Up-cycling fabric is also great fun, but I cannot resist all the different types and colours of mohair fabric. I don't just have one bear design, I cannot resist drawing up another pattern that pops into my head and then my fingers itch to get sewing and see what bear born from the pattern and the chosen fabric. Each bear, even when using the same pattern will always come out with a different character. Bear making is an addiction...

About Me

I live and work on the Far South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. I have been a keen artist and craft practitioner for more years than I care to remember publicly. On becoming a grandmother I developed a strange reawakening of my fascination for teddy bears (I'm sure I'm not the only one). Is this my third childhood? I hope so. :D

As a long time textile artist, I adore anything tactile and have discovered that working with teddy bears fulfills many of my emotional and creative desires:  I am passionate about creating; I thoroughly enjoy fashion: and I love the use of emblishments. My favorite type of project is dressing teddy bears of all shapes and sizes to define their character.  I particularly like rescuing pre-loved bears, giving them a make-over and a new lease on life.

Creating art and craft works from my home studio is something I would not trade-in for all the tea in China. Periodically, I have worked with community groups and run a studio for artists living with disability.  These types of experiences always recharge my creative drive and for me, the process is always equally as important as the end product. Find out more about my community arts work.

The fact that I wish to keep every artwork I create tells me that I am more than satified with what I produce.  As many teddy bear artists allege, creating a bear is like producing a child, so it's not surprising that you just don't want to let them go.

Buy my bears if you can promise they'll be going to a good home!
