I'm a mother & grandmother, and started writing children's books when we discovered a whole new town was going to built all around us. I saw tiny wild bears, called Dinkers, living in the small wood at the bottom of our garden, and wondered what was going to happen to them as the town wiped out their home. As I wrote about 'Bertrum', the young cub leading the way to their rescue, I decided to try and make him.
I created this funny little bear who sat and watched me as I wrote, and fell in love with not only writing about the bears, but making the characters from the books too. My early attempts were okay, but I had a lot to learn!
Over the years since 2006, the book series has been published & being made into a children's TV series, and I've made 100's of Dinkers. I'm self taught and try new things that sometimes work...and sometimes don't!
There are Dinkers living all over the world now, and I'm delighted that they bring so much pleasure.
I mostly make them using plush, as this makes them more affordable, but also enjoy the occasional mohair creation.
The Twecckles started a few years after the bears, these too are now all over the world, and in early days for their own TV show.
The town? Yes, the new town is well under way and it's noisy, dusty and sad. No idea what the future holds or where we'll be...it's an adventure waiting to happen, but it'll be full of Dinkers & Twecckles
